My Next Store Neighbour part 2
We all offer different kinds of oblation ranging from gold, silver and farm yielding not depending on our capabilities but on our hearts, but this girl is behind me again. She's holding a box of cake wrapped in a blue gift wrapping paper. She gives me the eyes again and smiles broadly exposing her well arranged white teeth I hadn't noticed before. Isaac Newton noticed that the apples were falling to ground not upwards because he was interested, it's all a matter of interest. As we wait for Fathers benediction, I notice she's in a necklace with an incomplete love-heart-shaped pendant. Maybe she had brought me here to complete the pendant! Who knows?
The mass is over and each one is running to get back to their houses, some to catch some much yearned sleep, some to quench the thirst for their phones and some to let loose their herds of sheep. But some of us for we know no one standing at the church door and waiting everyone walk away so that we can trail slowly was what we could do. This girl is here again, patting my back folllowed by a smile then a little hug and then goes ahead;
"How was the mass bro?"
With a confused look from the name bro I answer with my usual smile and a soft voice, "It was nice, I did enjoy and learnt a lot. Thanks siz." Waiting for her to be offended by the name sister she smiles again offering ngumi ni mbwegze greeting! Needless to say, I enjoyed her hugs than this mbwegze thing, but some feelings need not be showcased..
"I did enjoy too, this father always gets me on my chair.
"I'm happy I got a brother now, 19 years of age almost turning 20 I've been with sisters and there is that spark of having a brother that I miss; I want you to be my bro.
"You're an amazing handsome soul full of charisma, affection and emanating an aura that everyone wants to have around. God is His wisdom and magnificence must have taken a deal in crafting you"
I've grown doubting my English capabilities and this time it wasn't any different, I was right in doubting myself. I did get nothing but I knew they were sweet words. Sweet words those found in Bollywood movies or those sweet words my friend writes in Mwaniki Creatives. And having attended last year's Mens Conference and a constant student of class of gentlemancy, words like this you respond with a thank you enshrined with a cool smile because a wordy man maybe a turn off. You've to be careful, it's a trap!
"Yes I'll be an amazing bro to you Jolie. A good one indeed." I had just learnt her name from my sister and nothing is as disturbing as not knowing a person's name yet they call you by your 2 names! My dad tells me that these names we see on streets has some influence on our behaviour; this was perfect real life example. Jolie was pretty and pretty was Jolie!
"You know, almost 21 years of age now and I've never had a feeling of having a brother but I've 3 sisters whom I love so much so adding another one I wouldn't mind!" She looked at me, smiling broadly and vibrantly hugged me tightly and when it was about to be a snuggle, my phone rang! Finally the gentlemancy classes were paying off!
Mom is one of those strict astute paranoid mothers who 10 minutes of unknown whereabouts you've to explain where you've been. Time was over and no more for dilly-dallying and asking for brotherhood ties in the name of socialization after church service. She believes friendship is by fate and needless to force it. You've to stay at home and let fate take its course. But I'm a boy, Mom! A predator who has to pray for his prey as I had gone to do. And as all Moms are fighters and discpline masters, I love you Mom and thanks for bringing out the best in Mwaniki. And Jolie noticing the change in facials after the phone call she knew it was time to go home; time to let fate take its course!
"But Mwaniki as I had said before, I'm turning 20 in a week time, please do come to my birthday!"
Some birthdays we ask out where the party will be, some we're invited gently but others like this we're told to come, no other option;Come! Birthdays are associated with cakes and cakes was the pleasantry that was used to trap me in this. I'm reminded that birthdays are too accompanied by sugary things; I hope they're not the ones Zuchu is talking about.
"How can I miss siz, you know I'll be the first to come. I love poetry so much and as you mentioned earlier it's your cup too, please have this book and take a look at what I got. I'll be picking it up in the evening.
"Thanks bro."
"You're welcome" as I bid goodbye.
Everything was intentional, I gave out the book for 2 reasons. First it served as a string that I would use to come back for brotherly conversations and most importantly I know poetry is not a driving license but when I approach a policewoman with it, I'll ride more than a car!
